Harvesting Drive Shaft of weedeater

Heya forums! I got my homelite trimmed down to the bare basics, engine and drive shaft and am curious how to harvest the driveshaft and shorten it effectively. Currently it is way too long for my Prop bike project, but I want to use the coupling in the middle, seeing as it is a very convenient fitting! I don't think that just cutting into the drive shaft with a cutoff saw to shorten it would be a good idea, seeing as it may imbalance it (or are these drive shafts primitive enough that they can take a beating?). Ideas? I'm guessing this is a common step of making a DIY bike so I would love any advice!

Ah yes! Can't forget the pictures!
