Down tube too wide to fit bracket

Ok< soI bought a new Huffy Cranbrook to install my old engine onto it. The down tube is a bit thicker than my last bike and I can't get the mounting screws past the down tube to screw the bracket on. It seems like this should be a simple fix but I'm stuck. I also have a universa l mounting bar ....not sure if this could do anything but I thought it worth mentiong. Thanks for any help.
 
Try a Sick bike Parts oversized tube mounting kit. You will have to remove the studs but this is easy. They just unscrew. Use two nuts up against each other, hold the botttom nut to give something to twist against and unscrew the studs. Then screw in the SBP kit bolts.
 
I was wondering if those came out.
The double nut technique is a good technique.

Knowing that they come out just increased my options.
