denmark exhaust

reminds me of the egr system on 1980s firebird.. using recycled emissions back into the engine..what a pain that was
 
To me all it looks like those high school kids have done is create an expansion chamber, which anyone can already buy and/or make. Sure, it's great that they did it, but it doesn't sound like anything revolutionary to me.

Wouldn't it be just as efficient to run a tube from the exaust to the intake, and then turn the a/f down slightly on the carb?
