custom fix to make sprocket attach to axle instead of spokes

I'm tired of ripping out spokes and almost flipping over the handlebars because of failing rear wheels. I've considered doing a rag joint setup with a wheel that has 12g steel spokes, but I'd rather have something that attaches to the axle. I looked at the manic mechanic fix and it seems pretty solid. Any other methods you guys have seen to get the sprocket attached to the axle? Would a simple weld work?

I fiberglassed my sprocket to the hub, I can still take the sprocket on and off, but heres the back draw with what I've done. If a spoke brakes I can't change without grinding away all the fiberglass. Otherwise it is rock solid.

If you have a wheel made for disc brakes, you can just bolt a sprocket on that. I don't recommend welding a sprocket on.
