Brazing Aluminum

Just thought that I would pass this on to the forum, to make people
aware that brazing Aluminum can be cheap, fun and easy! All that
you need for this is a Propane torch and aluminum low temperature
brazing rods from Lowe's or Home Depot. Here's an example of my
intake manifold that I sawed across the center section, so that I
could turn the carb mounting end to create a slight angle. That allowed
my air cleaner to mount on my Mikuni carb, and clear the frame. Here
are some photo's.

I just also started to weld aluminum by allumalloy rods. I welded a foot shifter together and some fan mounts on an alum. radiator. (I work at a motorcycle shop also).
I plan on using this on my new build. A full suspension rear mount.

Great thread Outrunner!

This method is literally the only way to bond small cast aluminum parts. Cast Aluminum is very difficult to TIG.

It is fun to learn new things. This is the only reason I mess around in the shop. There's always something new to learn when building bikes.

Thanks for this post.. I am also going to be welding Aluminum on a Gary Fisher frame (a Derailleur) and will be getting these rods tomorrow. I have a MIG that says I can do Alum with reverse polarity but I heard a TIG is better if anything besides these brazing rods. I would have to buy some Argon gas and perhaps a special spool of expensive aluminum wire feed. I will save the welder for the fun Steel MeTaL stuff I guess.

Cheers
