Ok, so this is later whizzer ambassador fork made in taiwan. The seals are shot to the point fluid is leaking on to my disc brake.

I figured while I had it apart I would shorten the length of tubes. Thought it might be easy and I could do it at home. Just wanted to shorten a couple of inches.

Here is what I have to contend with in pics. The bolt that holds top of triple tree mount and fluid fill does not screw into large part of fork tube. The bolt appears to screw into fitting that I think may be pressed or peened with little tits? Not sure what I"m looking at! What is the name of this method?

If you look inside small holes in large fork tube there is no threads from insert like it screwed in. If they are in fact nipples in the small holes they are not protruding very far. Didn't want to take pipe wrenches to it and screw up because I didn't know anything, I have done enough of that for a life time.

Any thoughts would be extremely grateful. Mason man on here can help you...he's lowered those and know what it takes...I don't believe anything gets cut though on those tubes.
 
Machinist here. I don't think it's a machinist thing as much as a design thing. I'd guess either there is a piece that slides in with fingers/nipples on the ends that lock into position, or it might be for a special tool to rotate or align the fork tubes in the triple trees, like the small barrel adjustment holes on the side of micrometers.

Yea, It was a poor choice of title the more I think about it. I have always been able to understand machinist a little better than engineers and was thinking someone in the trade may have made something like this. The question is actually open for everyone.

I think you are correct the more I stare at it. Now I'm thinking it's three pieces. The part on inside of tube that holds triple three bolt may be slightly larger at the top and is driven into a short sleeve that compresses it into the tube wall?

Never the less, I was looking for easy and it looks like I will put up with the easy rider look once again. I was hoping to make tighter turns at speed. Thanks for replying.
 
Ray says they drill through and tack weld that in the tube....he'll be on later to better explain
