I was browsing our local craigslist for bikes and came across this ad.

I did a little research online and couldn't find much. I'm curious if this was a kit or a buy-it-at-the-store-assembled situation. And who built it? I've never heard of Columbia making mopeds before.

From a technical perspective, the engine doesn't look that much different than the 2-stroke china girls that we have around today, but there's definitely something different going on with the belt and chain drive combo set up.

Does anyone know what this odd piece of history is?

It's just a plain old Columbia moped. They used sachs and solo motors. Not too rare.

Thanks for the info baidrco. They must have not stood the test of time too well. I haven't seen one before. I take it that it's probably not worth the $150 that they are asking considering they aren't that rare and it's in pretty rough shape?
