v belt clutch vs tprque converter

Would a rim driven v belt clutch function better or a torque converter? I feel a torque converter would bend spokes over time but puts more power to the wheels without slippage and will not need a tensioner vs v belt clutch which will need a tensioners and may slip more in raining conditions...
