Everybody depends upon other's information and advice to avoid having to "reinvent the wheel".
Issue can be locating good advice, while avoiding bad information.
Sometimes there are just differences of opinions, based upon individual's experiences and results.
You've entered realm of discussing politics and religion: everybody thinks they're right/everybody disagrees.
One makes their best guess, takes their chances, and gets what they get
One good "bad example" is balancing cranks: "experts" disagree. SIGH!
Best video seen thus far on engine disassembly, when replacing bearings/seals, or removing crank for balancing found here:
Note: video avoids use of specialized tools, especially helpful for "tool challenged"
Tip to try: some auto parts stores will loan tools, long as credit card backs up tool loan, in case tool returned damaged/decide to purchase/keep tool.
Some auto parts stores have diagnostic programs complementing their tool loan programs.
