I built two Thruster bikes using the factory "flip-flop" hub, with the rag joint directly fitted to the fixie sprocket. I cut a washer, to fit the space around the sprocket so it could be properly sandwiched between the metal brackets. The kit-supplied rag washer was too thick, so I ended up cutting one from red rubber gasket material.
