I walked into the local goodwill tonight and saw them hanging on the wall. Aluminum adjustable crutches. They come in pairs just the right number to fit one over each trailer wheel. Screw a piece of plywood in between and an L bracket on each foot of the crutch to make a trailer with a double tongue which is a good thing.

I didn't do it I have three trailers now and never use them anymore since I got out of the electric bikes. I used them to haul batteries back then. The crutch thing should work as supports for both sides of a bike wheel. I would think small drop down mending strips bolted to the crutch frame. They even have predrilled holes that would be perfect to attach all the little hangers.

Just looks like a simple build with a say 16" wheels from a kiddie bike. I think the crutches were like 3.5 bucks here for the set of two. You would even have padded bumpers where the arms used to rest on top.
