Yeah it was clipped in the correct direction. During the first break, it broke in two spots - couldnt find the missing link on the road to put with the picture.

Might try just putting the chain on using a chain tool and skip the master link all together and see how it fairs

Just unfortunate that I haven't been able to use the bike at all yet :(

Anything should beat the kit chains! I threw mine away the first couple days in. Yuck.

I recommend chains marked as single-speed chains, without bushings (less "stretch").
They are also more stiff and less likely to derail. Yes, it's best to use a chain tool and skip the master link. Avoid half-links too, if you can.

Garage door chains can work, and are made to take the stress, but you must watch to keep them well oiled or they will rust quickly. You can get a garage door chain in the right size for $10-20, and have yards of it.
