We are planning to put on a relay ride using one of our standard bikes, circumnavigating the country!
The idea is to get together volunteer riders from the forum, all around the country.
We were thinking to start the run in April at the Grange race, handing off the bike to a volunteer rider,and that rider will hand the bike off to the next and the next and so on .......!
Each rider drives the bike 50 to 100 miles as he wishes and hands it off to the next rider! If the bike is getting driven 2 hours a day, we will make it! Because every rider is a "local" he knows the area and where he can ride the bike legally and safe!
By breaking the ride up into "bite size" chunks, lots of people get to be involved, and the ability for people to fit this into their lives is much easier!!!!
One really cool aspect will be that we "DEMAND" every one who rides the bike will sign their name and date on the bike, and make a photo of them with the bike and post it !!!! The bike will have a California plate, and proper lighting. We will also provide tech support, though it is expected that you have basic mechanical skills.
The route would be going from Apple Valley the southern route to NEW YORK City then North and then come back
north to Washington / Seattle and back down to Grange / Apple Valley!!!!!! We want to see the last rider
to arrive at Grange at the race in October!
As you can see by the time frame given this is NOT a race against the clock but a promotion for
not only our bikes but for the whole of this hobby / sport!
We want a facebook page to follow the bike, pictures by the riders ...... Maybe even something on the website that you have talked about setting up for motor-bicycle racing?? you get the drift..!
Now we are sure that there will be many objections to such an undertaking, but we think
it is an opportunity for many bike enthusiasts to take part in an "epic" ride!
It shall be noted that we expect the riders (men or women) to be responsible for their own actions!
We will require a release of liability, a copy of your drivers license and 2 references ! We will NOT accept ANY responsibility for
ANY kind of death, personal injury or loss of any kind!
This is an event for adventurous, no crybaby's or whiners may apply!
So, if you do the math, you are looking at about 9000 miles and about 180 days to do it!
That would bring it to about 50 MILES per day!
Now you can do that! Even after work!
If you can do more...GREAT!
You have to be in contact with the guy riding before your and the guy after you! Do you have a friend 50 or 100 mile away? Ask him or her!
If everybody has this information, we get the "Daisy-chain" we need to make this project a reality!
The magic of this event is the networking of all of you guys and gals!
Yes, there are problems that have to be worked out, but it is worth it!
It's not like we try to get to the moon!!?
