SlowRide IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. You do not need to split the engine to service the clutch shaft and bearings. Remove the nuts and spring washers from BOTH the gear side and the sprocket side of the engine. Get a piece of wood and drive the shaft out by using the wood as a ram on the sprocket side. The shaft and bearing on the large gear side of the engine will come out.

I had the same bearings go recently. I believe it was due to lack of lubrication. The seller I get my stuff from doesn't lube before shipment. It was my first engine so I didn't catch it before it was too late. Now my crank bearing is gone too. The bearings are cheap though and you can get 10 for like 20 bucks on amazon!
