Bought this speedometor directions doesnot give exact location for sensor ......where on the forks... how far from axle ......seems it must make a difference?????

Whats important when setting up a computer is that the sensor and the magnet on the wheel (usually mounted to the spokes are close enough together for the sensor to register a pulse from the magnet when it passes.

Place the sensor wherever the magnet on the spoke is closest to it. The one in the drawing would have to be moved down. You want the magnet to be as close as you can get it without hitting. It counts rpm so location doesn't matter as long as it is close. Most have a reed switch as the sensor.
