When I was mocking up and testing my bike prior to paint I had trouble with my chain tensioner staying in place. I finally just removed it all together out of frustration. I went out right after and was shocked to see a 4 mph increase in speed. I was puzzled by how a little tensioner could cause that much drive line drag. Well after talking to crazy horse a while back ago He explained that the chain wrapping so far around the rear sprocket is a performance killer. Of course my peddle side chain is loose now and I have to ask, why don't people simply put the chain tensioner on the peddle side?

Because some people are also using the tensioner as a guide too, but if you get the chain straight and tight enough you will no longer need it and then can put the tensioner on the peddal side and even then you could change the peddal sprocket for a diffrent size one that would make the chain the right length.
