Here's my current personal bike.... It's a 1952 Schwinn straight bar with a Sportsman Flyer tank. The engine has lots of porting, a 6.0 Fred head & a KX65 pipe.

Looks geat!
Is that tuned pipe custom?
Thanks! :)

The pipe is just a stock KX-65 pipe that I cut up & re-welded to fit the bike... I had to make the bolt-on flange from some pipe & flat stock.

I try not to change the actual length of the pipe so the 'tuning' will still be close to how the factory intended it to be.

I'm going to experiment with changing the length of the header part of the pipe to get a little better performance out of it. (^)

Today I decided to add a reed valve, bigger carb & to machine the cylinder & piston to make it all work.
I also added a spacer to the exhaust to tune the pipe better.

Tomorrow I'll re-jet the carb for top speed.

I made lots of changes to the bike this week!
I built some new 50mm alloy wheels with a disc brake.
I added a new hub adapter with 36t sprocket.
I lowered the seat post & did a lot of fine tuning to the pipe & carb for better top speed.

That pipe looks like it's gonna warm things up...tank and rider.
Actually, the pipe is tucked nicely out of the way & doesn't heat me (or the tank) up. ;)

Nice bike Norm.
Thanks! :)

Great looking bike Norm, what is your top speed so far?
Thanks!
The bikes top speed is up for serious debate.. I recently went on a 20 mile ride with the LA DTM Club, & some of their guys say their bikes GPS in the mid-high 50s & my GPS app said 45 MPH. (& we were all going about the same speed).

I was thinking about it after the ride & we were all passing cars on some really long streets that I normally go between 50-60 mph in my car... So I need to experiment with my GPS app & a few others to see whats really going on.

Nice!! Very Nice!!! You build some of my favorite two strokes. It looks fast just standing still. Must be loud with that open pipe. Your plate number though, that thing must be from early 2015.. also 'vintage' laff

Last Friday the engine decided it didn't like the piston rings anymore... :(
So over the last few days I've been re-building the engine with a new 40mm crank & while i was at it I decided to make a custom manifold to use a 22mm Mikuni carb.

Tomorrow I'll re-jet the carb & re-tune the pipe to match. (^)

Here's a few pics from today's ride to Venice Beach with some of the Los Angeles DTM Bike Club...

The Schwinn has had several upgrades in the past few weeks & has clocked a GPS top speed of 56.4 mph.

I dunno how accurate those gps' can be... I think mine is lying like a rug...
The GPS apps work a lot better when you set it on 'automobile' mode & not something slow like a bicycle or running.

I've tried several GPS apps & there's a lot of difference in top speed between them & I trust this app more than most.

There's also plenty of guys on the Facebook forums who brag about their bikes GPS-ing at 60-70mph, so I'm confident that I'm not being 'far-fetched' with my speed claim.
