What I did was pull a 24t chain ring off a mountain bike and when I get the 44t chain ring that comes with the 3 piece kit, I'm going to cut it down, drill holes in it, and bolt it to what's left of the 44t chain ring.

Springfield IL.
Its a no-name kit from gas-bike.
I was hopeing I would have some off the shelf options.
I don't really want to molest another crank, to get a smaller gear.
I thought I might have some other options, but Im not sure.

You can buy chain rings separately, usually they have rivet holes then all you would have to do is cut down the 44t chain ring it has and you could bolt whatever size chain ring you want to it. I only tore this one off another bike because I already had it, I'd gotten it for free, and the bike it came off of isn't going to be ridden because I'm using it for a wheel truing stand.
