They look lame but, overlooking that flaw, they could make sudden, non planned impacts seem safer. I gotta call it: safety for geekdom folks.

Thats pretty cool. Like the idea but could that work for us? Has a rip cord so you have to separate from the bike for it to deploy. My only MB accident, I was close enough to bleed on my bike. (my fault, fender issue)

For the accidents that really do the damage, you will be separated from your bike . This should help when it really counts. Not the A*** Hole cager smacking you with their mirror accidents. But when you go air born this sounds like something I would want.
