I need a grant....Part of the Experimental Vehicle Team from Saint Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, a team of high school students designed and fabricated a lithium-phosphate-ion-powered motorcycle. It can travel at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour for at least 50 miles before needing a charge and even has safety features such as "crush zones" made from compressible materials.
The next item on the agenda for these innovative students is a solar charging station to make the bike truly carbon free.
One of 16 high schools that received a $10,000 grant from InvenTeams, the team was told to identify a real world problem and invent a practical solution. The motorbike is expected to be displayed at MIT next week.
