Do rear hubs with 'cone' ends work for sprockets?

Ok. I think my rear wheel is not too bad. I will take it to a bike shop tomorrow and have them look at it. And if they can fix it, I won't have to buy a new rear wheel! But i for sure need a new front wheel too. But that's easy.

The fact that the cone (actually a dust cover) comes off doesn't matter in this case. The sprocket will sit beyond that cover, next to the hub flange once the ragjoint is compressed. The sprocket's inner hole must clear or it's not going to work.
