You guys are going to LOVE the video of a motorized bicycle racing against motorcycles on Laguna Seca and tearing it up!!!

It's uploading to youtube right now. :)

The Gods of racing smiled on me for this event (which seldom happens when your goal is always to push the limits of what is possible for every part on the bike).

The only danger/failing point at this event was the rear wheel/tire combo, which was a bicycle part rather than a motorcycle part, and repeated 80mph cornering caused chunks of the tire carcass to break off the edges, and rips and tears on the fragile bicycle tire sidewall. It was a brand-new tire, and only got ridden a total of 11 laps (2.28laps per mile, so 25miles of riding), and it was just dumb-luck that the poor thing didn't shred itself with my 220lbs at 80mph railing on it. It looks like it should just pop sitting stationary. I don't think it would have made it 1 more lap around intact.

Motorcycle tires are a MUST for folks pushing the limits!!

There is a reason no bicycle tires are DOT approved for highway speeds.

I would strongly advise anyone pushing >45mph to run a speed-rated tire. It's not worth your life.

No answer to the questions???

Is Laguna Seca the track that you are hosting your free race on?
When is your race?

Are you coming to the next SoCal race on Sat Oct 22nd?

motorized bicycle racing against motorcycles
By motorized bicycle do you mean eBike or gas?

What was the class you were racing in?
were there any gas bikes?

Most motorized bikes were under 45 mph at Willow Springs and we
will see how fast the new track is in a few weeks.

I was typing before you replied, didn't see it.

Laguna is over $20,000usd to rent, and larger than optimal for vehicles that do <100mph. So, it would be a poor choice.

Too far ahead to know at this point. My work and race schedule (races for motorcycles rather than bicycles) is slammed with things.

By motorized bicycle do you mean eBike or gas?

By motorized bicycle, I mean, a bicycle with an electric motor.

What was the class you were racing in?
were there any gas bikes?

This event was ReFuel, it's an electric-only event, no gas bikes. I raced in the class for racing motorcycles. (the other class was production motorcycles, which was much slower)

will see how fast the new track is in a few weeks.

If this new track has a 900ft long straight, and the guys setup their bikes properly for the track, the bikes with 10hp are going to be doing >65mph if setup correctly.

BIMOPED..........STOP HIJACKING HIS THREAD!!!!!

on other news...cool looking build....hope to see you at the next race
Hey LFP
You say in this first post that the hp was at 10 for the Willow Springs race.
Then in your build thread on ES you say the bike was making 21 hp???

It's really hard to compare anyway when your electric motor is probably
making 10 hp or 20hp at very low rpms on a flat curve through the rpm range.

What is the rpm range of this electric motor?

11 hp class can not use motorcycle tires.

Hey Samford&Son. I was looking at some race pics and you did not seem
to be wearing knee or elbow pads?
no pads = no race next time.

I don't know if you read the thread, but we used a totally different brushed motor and controller for the willow event, which burned up and was destroyed at that event. Smoked pics of it are in this thread.

The setup with 21hp for the Laguna event was a totally different controller, motor, voltage, current, drivetrain etc.

I assumed nothing, my words were well chosen as I said you did not
seem to be wearing pads. It was kind of hard to tell if you had pads
or if that was just your own padding. hahahahahah lol
Do you need a no pants pad check next race?

Thanks for the insult and eBikes are getting their own class next race
no matter how many show up.
No more special treatment for eBike weenies as they will be required to
run all the heats just like the gas bikes.
There will be a 5000kw generator provided at the track on Oct 22nd.

Yes, it would be quite a show if liveforphysics could do more than a
few laps and actually finish a race. Burned up in Tucson and at
Willow Springs.
Out of 9 eBikes at Willow Springs only the slowest 2 finished. That is
not very entertaining.......

By BMX size tires you mean 20" Pirelli ML 75 which are Moped tires.

How wide are the bicycle rims that these tires are mounting on?

Pirelli ML75 Scooter Tires - KneeDraggers.com

BioMoped AKA M.B.R. your back with us! If he uses moped tires he will not be able to race. Only bicycle tires are allowed remember? Those were the agreed rules I read in your threads of Willow and now the new Grange track. If I am not mistaken. Are these tires then allowed now?

Really looking forward to your new set up Luke. I enjoyed the videos on your other bike. That thing was sweet and fast too. I know it's always time and money to get these creations into proper order. Got my respect! Your on the cutting edge and that takes a lot of care . Keep up the good work!dnut
