ceramic wheel bearings

No, but I've found that the stock steel bearings work very well if the hub is taken apart, packed with grease & properly put back together.

I gotta agree there, but if I get one that takes the cartridge bearings I might try the ceramic ones out...

My only experience with ceramics was with an R/C jet turbine. I replaced a set that the oil(actually fuel) passage had been plugged on assembly and had been run a few times dry. It ran merrily along at 150,000 rpms but became noisy. I replaced the bearings with a set from Boca Bearings. There were (2) at roughly $100 ea. They were the size of a larger watch battery. I took the balls out of one of the bad bearings and decided to hit it with a hammer on my anvil to turn it to powder. Made a dent in the hammer and anvil and was unhurt. The jet went on to fly in more experienced hands than mine for quite a while until its expiration date was up. These might be overkill for bike wheel bearings!

I ran ceramic balls in R/C clutches for awhile but they would eat up the steel pressure plates, made grooves. We ended up just using steel balls, seemed to be more even wear that way.
