Today ride was something else. We had a tornado watch watch last night. I'm glad to see the bad weather clear out some. It was in the upper 50's when I went for my ride. My little town really seems to be coming to life. The birds are singing, the squirrels running about underneath the hickory tree and the ground hog coming from under the neighbor's house to eat clovers. The air was smelling fresh and the sun was bright. Being in the valley gives you a great view of the mountains. So off I went first to the most visited place on earth. Yes I went to Walmart. I always get asked questions about my bike when I'm locking it up at the bike stand. I don't mind them at all, I enjoy talking with people anyways. Even more so when it comes to my bike. Motored bikes are a product of your creativity and something to be proud of. I bought a few items put them in my side carrying basket and took them home. Then it was off to the independent discount grocery store. I go there often and all the employees know me. Same thing as before answer peoples questions then put my food in the basket and head for home. Always making sure to slow down to the posted 15 mph as I passed by the flashing school zone signs. After reaching home and putting my food away it was time to ride for fun. So off I went giving smiles and waves to people who were starring as I rode by. While checking my mirrors I moved over some to let the police go by. I do need to let my bike slow some on uphills so my auto shift shifts into a lower gear; then I can turn up the gas and power up the hills. Everything was just great as I entered into a long down hill section. Suddenly I heard a loud pop and my 410 chain came lose from the crank drive. I put on brakes and got off the road. The first thing I noticed was the spring to the tension arm had broken. The good news is it broke at the connection point on the tension arm. So I got out some tools from my Bell brand handlebar bag. First I loosened a master link in order to put the 410 chain back on. After that was done then I was ready to fix the spring. While doing this a very pretty woman walked up to me and asked if I was going to be able to fix it. I told her yes then she offered me some hand wipes to clean my hands with when I was done. I accepted and thanked her. I fixed the spring and was on my way again. I went on home in order to give my bike a more through look over. Everything appears to be ok. I feel blessed to live in Oak Ridge that's why I made sure to bring the dirty hand wipes home to throw in the trash. On motorized bikes at some point a breakdown is going to happen; that's why its important to carry tools and repair accessories with you. This way you get back home and you have a ride to remember..bld

Yes, LR Jerry. A great suggestion. As I prepare to take out and use my MB for the first time, I prepared a Bike Shop in a bag. I place this zippered and compact bag into my back pack. Confidence on my back!

Well it is good you've been blessed so far. However not all of us may have somebody who can stop whatever they're doing and come get us. My bike won't fit into most trunks. So this limits who I can call. I hope Saint Chirstopher keeps riding with you.

Yea, I know what you mean. Should I break down, I'm lucky that just about all my friends have pick-ups, and don't worry who can get me. Should one not have a PU I can leave the bike, get a ride and return with my truck, as I won't push one.

Where were you fishing? Tennessee has some really great spots. One place I go to you can see the bottom at ten feet.
That was about 30 miles out in the Gulf, south of Pensacola. What I hooked on to is a 9.5'/350# Bull Shark. The thing worked on me, like pulling a VW off the bottom. Funny thing I had hooked a Snapper or a Grouper, and the shark seemed to want it more then me. Had a circle hook (50# test) on mono line. Hooked in the lip and didn't have a chance to cut my line. Catch and released.

I bet that was fun. The largest fish I ever caught was a 50 lb grouper when I was 14 we were tied off to an oil platform off the coast of Texas. These days I just fresh water fish. As for sharks their hides, teeth and jaws were big sellers during the 70's in Texas. Them Texans will put about anything on a wallet, purse, belt or boots. What I most like about Texas is it flat and very good for riding.

You've never been to East Texas, have you? We've got hills here! Pretty riding, good scenery, but not flat.

Also, a lot of high speed limits, so you need to keep to the back roads while riding (unless your MB can do 45-50 mph). Even most of the school zones are 30 mph (a few are 25). Posted speeds on the loop are 45-55 mph, so that means people drive up to 70 mph.

But back on topic, I always carry tools and a cell phone. If I can't fix it, and it's too far to pedal, I'll call my wife, and put it in her truck. :)

I was in the coastial region of Texas during the 70's.
I used to live in Lake Jackson in the late 70's, and it was pretty flat there. :)
When I was a kid, my parent's had a night club on Surfside Beach. My dad worked at Dow Chemical in Freeport, and my mom took care of the bar until he got off work, so after school we got to go and play on the beach a lot.

Up here in the Piney Woods/East Texas area the landscape is different. It's beautiful riding area (especially on a motorcycle), but the hills can slow you down on a MB.

I carry a hex multi tool, 10mm wrench, cheap multi wrnech that works with like 5 sizes in one stamped piece of metal and a leatherman type tool. Just today I needed the hex tool and the screw driver to lower the idle while out. Used the hex tool to get rid of my bottle holder because it snapped in half and ruined my aluminum water bottle.
