Pretty much - rubbish. Chinese has gone much further with e-cars(they use it on daily basis for two years now) , even Italians and Dutch. This is not more than fashion statement (like owning Prius , over in USA - many celebrities has one or two, just to confirm to the public their environmental conciseness ). It will be inappropriately expensive (regarding it's performance), but someone has to pay for the Smart badge. Anyone is better off with a simple conversion (less money and you can drive a car you actually like).
