Saw this in my travels & thought it looked like an interesting old piece. He has a headlight to go with it too.

What is that, the carbide generator for a carbide lamp? I've seen old pictures of these mounted on a cross bar on the handlebars of old motorcycles. Are you going to mount it?

I just read the print on the side of it. You are correct, cobrafreak.
It is an acetylene generator for the old tyme carbide lamps.
They are pretty cool, but not really all that bright. Imagine a cigarette lighter with a reflector behind it and a focusing lens in front of it and you'll get the idea of how bright they are.

I wasn't thinking of using it, just thought it was an interesting piece.
