bent up rear sprocket

I threw the chain recently, pretty bad.... f*&$#@d up the rear rim something awful. Built a cool tensioner from scratch as a result, got a new rear rim. It bent the rear sprocket too....
the new setup won't work because the sprocket got bent in the aforementioned calamity..keeps throwing the chain because the sprocket is bent.

Q: what is the cure for a bent rear sprocket?


I am running a coaster brake, the oversized center hole sprocket from Pistonbikes.com

Take it off and pound it flat on a chunk of wood.
Be careful to check frequently and don't get crazy with the hammer.
You can easily eyeball it straight again if you're careful.

I've flattened warped sprockets with a large Crescent wrench and careful bending. They can be flattened but it takes some effort and patients. Anything over about 1/8th inch run out can cause you problems. It needs to be FLAT.

Fix it or replace it but find out why you threw the chain or it will happen again.
Chain tension and alignment are critical but if done right the chain shouldn't come off. Rear sprocket installation is also important. You'll want that sprocket to spin true in both axis, vertical and horizontal.

A vise and a Crescent wrench can probably repair it to useable condition. Just take it slow and easy.

I second what Wing nut says here.
After examining what all can happen, I have decided to
plunk down a few more dollars into my kit before the install.

but you can order direct from George at MM, save a few dollars.

yes , that link is for a very nice wheel & the hub adapter & sprocket
that sprocket requires a 415 chain ...another good upgrade as well

415 chain isn't really an upgrade. It's what comes with most 2 stroke kits. #41 chain would be a better option. If that MM adapter won't use #41 there are alternatives that will.
