Here's my thought & I'm VERY open to input.
I'm thinking a small, exposed shaft motorcycle
alternator. Mounted to an adjustable bracket, with
a small chain sprocket in place of the original
belt / gear. This would take place of my current chain
tensioner. The adjustable bracket will be mounted to
the rear of the seat post. The alternator (serving two purposes)
will charge a small gel-cell battery used for all electrics.
Lights, horn, signals, radio?, speedo/computer, etc.
(minus the engine itself.)
Any thoughts? zpt

I'm by no means an expert on motorcycles or scooters but I've heard about and have seen alternators they use and many of them are intergal with the starter which makes for a bulky device to mount on a motorized bicycle. With that being said I'll repeat that I'm no expert. There could well be small generating units out there that would work with your concept. Do you have an alternator in mind? Post some photos of the unit if possible.

HEY 2door!!
How's life? I did find a super small alternator off a '99 to '01
Hyabusa. (The owner wasn't really sure) I'm trying to track
down the numbers stamped on it's casing. It's about 2 1/2"
in diameter by about 4" long with a 3/4" flange. I'm in the
process of drawing up a mounting bracket. I'll keep you posted
as this horrible experiment unfolds. (hopefully I won't de-ionize
the stratosphere) This is the biggest pic I've got thus far.
Take care Tom,
