If you change where the timing spark occurs on a stroke..can you run it backwards? Reverse direction

usually, though clutches & magnetos can sometimes have built-in directionality

I doubt these HTs would care which way they went.

I got a geared hub off a kinetic moped....belt driven...it drives the belt clockwise looking at it so I wondered.....its 6.75:1

just flip the magnet around, you cant change the timing due to the key (unless you have a fabricated key system, which has been done for full adjustability). This will set the spark from 40 degrees BTDC to 40 degrees ATDC, which will become BTDC when the engine is run in reverse. Other than that, it's good to go. In theory, you can simply push the bike backward and get it to run reverse without flipping the magnet, but the timing would be so far off the compression would be long done before the spark can go bang, producing no usable power, therefore no start, therefore useless motor.

also, if it has an injector pump, that may be timed wrong for reverse running
