After some thought I voted no. Here is my reason. To say that you need a drivers license is saying that it is a motor vehicle. It isn't. It is a bicycle with a gas powered helper motor.

i say it can be & should be both depending on how it is built.
if it is made to do 20mph, it is a bike.
if it is made up to higher standards with lights & signals & over 20mph.
it fits the legal definition of a moped.

i saw a post in the main forum about using moto/bikes for disaster recovery. it is a good idea to use that as a "card" in the hand.
i lived in south florida. about 5 years ago we had huricanes knock out the power 3-4 years straight. once for over a week.
it took hours to find & wait for gas. i didn't have a problem though since i have scooters that get almost 70mpg.
our bikes get somewhere between 100-120mpg.

also many cities are having problems getting people to spend money localy. like down town. (at least ours is.)
being able to scoot around on a bike, moped, or scooter helps that.
in addition it helps traffic.
all the locals in south beach drive scooters & bikes around.
it is the only way to get around while bypassing traffic.

I voted yes but, understand why a lot of people would vote no. I currently have a suspended license and would still say no. Its not really to hurt those that can't get a license but, to protect those dumb kids who would try to take advantage of it.

I really like how California handles it and think that is the way to go.

i'm still torn.

i think about the little kids riding haphazard.
then i think about people that are not allowed to to drive a vehicle.
like people with epilepsy or legally blind. (like my uncle)
i even feel for the DUI people.
it is nearly impossible to live now a days with no form of transportation.
then i think about how i have seen in the news, highway billboards advertising "DUI bikes". i guess it comes with the territory.

i want every body to be able to have transportation. then i'm afraid of the outcome.

i vote no cuz i'm legally blind and want to be able to go where i want to when i want to and not have to rely on everybody else. Public transportation just don't cut it.
