My employer , the public school system , had to make enormous cost cuts by order of Gov. Mitch Daniels. We are losing employees and cutting back on supplies or downgrading them . This is to be expected and accepted . Yet with out missing a beat this county school corp. is sinking 9 million into a system called New Tech .This is developing from a different fund .Those famous words you hear from time to time when your tax dollars are being used for projects that make no scents at all considering the economy in Indiana . We have a neighboring county cutting their employees and sinking x million dollars into artificial turf for the sports field .

Check into these things and you will probably find kickbacks, buddys getting contracts at inflated cost, and generally profiting from our tax dollars in underhanded ways. My opinion. We have a multimillion dollar bridge lighting project here in Natchez and public employees being laid off and services being cut everywhere. Seems that politicians live in a different world than the tax payers.

If they could get all those teachers declared assistant coaches the alumni or booster club might kick in a buck or to for them as well.

It might not be relevent to your point, Lefty, but now you got me curious what this mysterious New Tech system is. It sounds sinister!

Usually they make life harder and require extra people. Since there is no money for staff it mostly likely will be abandoned next year.

The only thing to increase student learning is for them to want to learn. That has more to do with home motivation, I think. My parents had a goal for their children, some of them exceeded it. I on the other hand just met it. I met it to save my butt.

Educational opportunities, like youth, is wasted on the young.

Oh, I'm so USED to Indiana! I think that no place craps in it's own bed more and rolls around in it. It's a desperate place, from the long-embraced policies of forever breaking the colts, and putting screws on everybody so hard, there's scarcely a more tense place on earth.

Outside of the anti-welfare attitude, that spreads itself until it hurts everyone really really good, the schools have gone off the deep end, trying to breed corporate robots by starting in early August and keeping ridiculous hours in harsh weather. (And take that opinion from someone with a degree in Ed. from IU).

It's a weird place, really strung out on it's own extreme politics, and it thinks it leads the way for the rest of the nation. It's also proven very bad for my health at least several times, and since I was flooded from my home, and am now in Florida, I literally fear the idea of having to return there on business.
Never could I imagine the will of so many peope to end someone's life, and just for amusement.

I grew up in Indianapolis, and it was a saner place before NFL and NASCAR, even considering the Indy Star.

I have felt more safe in the toughest barrios of Los Angeles than I do in Indiana these days, and that's for certain.

It's what occurs when "inspiration" is no longer valued in education, only motivation and corporate achievement.

At least Amy Pohler has a job.

Lefty, I work in the County government and I feel your pain. Sometimes, it's all we can do to keep our heads down when the wind changes direction. You ever see those T-shirts that say "Ditch Mitch"? My wife has one; if you like, I can ask her where she got it.

Ohmigod- Did Brown County and Bank of America ever really RAPE your Friendly Neighborhood Transgendered Woman on her FEMA flood settlement-

An evil county- trying to make me move away from the moment I moved there in 2005- listed the same debt I had there as two property liens back in 2007, a year before the flood.

So then after finally giiving me a settlement offer after THREE YEARS and then fussing with me 3/4 of a year more, B of A takes me for almost FOUR TIMES what I ever owed them- acting like now I'd run up this HUGE DEBT- a debt I couldn't possibly have even floated with my disability income, and after all my own records were destroyed in the flood- with not so mauvch as a "thank you" or simple acknowledgement of payment recieved- I have a black mark on my credit- obviously concieved on county records and then COLLUDED on by B of A and I'm still some kind of liar somehow they make it appear.

They had great great fun making sport of me in Nashville and my alma mater Bloomington.
And I'm never going back to Nashville anymore. Ran me around there all last summer trying to get it cleared up.

The problem with Indiana is they insist always on this EXTREME measure of force in their politics and ways in general. It breeds a tense place where people are under too much pressure, and establishment gangs now have risen to persecute everyone who won't fall in line, and those who do bow down to it all are miserable and angry anyway.

Their fiscal policies breed a climate of poverty, a cycle of poverty, because they doin't even want to acknowledge that people need SOME money to live on otherwise- if they aren't with the "IN CROWD" or constantly kissing A otherwise-

they are sooooo anxious to think it is THEY who make everyone jump constant hoops and that THAT is what makes things happen- until there are so many poor people destitute that the whole system of commerce wallows in it.

they used to send me- quite frequently- letters to tell me there was going to be ONE DOLLAR less in my food stamps the next month- this happened a handful of times- They mailed out a letter they had to pay someone to pay to write and print and then make some kind of change in the electronic EBT amount, and use a $.40 postage to mail me a letter telling me I was going to have a ONE DOLLAR change in my food stamps-

and I think it was mostly for pressure. They had to beleive that I was somehow just sitting out there in the boonies 12 miles outta B-ton, and 6 miles from Nashville- where they even closed down the only Taco Bell they had because of "commercialism'- and just having a grand ole time- at THEIR EXPENSE is forever their logic- and they could somehow pressure my sick butt outta there to makeme sell them cigareetes or something. After going to the same university taking the same classes and doing quite well- now I'm Public Enemy Number 1.

the truth was more like I was forever exhausted renovating an old shack that no one had lived in for five years- simply to get it SURVIVABLE- and always working furiously around the coming winter to get it more ready- until 7 feet of water came down the Beanblossom Creek in 2008 and washed huindreds of people away-

I sorta went back in summer when Ma was alive-despite notices in our boxes TWO DAYS after the flood that we couldn't do any repairs without a special permit from the county they hoipe to make ENTIRELY Republican and have done a pretty good job-

and the whole time the cops followed me around- a former Student Foundation memeber- and really redneck neighbors bothered me in anyway they could, and totaly grown men in their 50s and 60's- successful and educated would sit there in the coffee shop in Nashville and try to insult me continually like the worst sort of Junior high bully- And so then thet had to elect Sherrif FOLLOWEL Follow El- and they call him a Democrat.

God I'm glad I'm outta there-and it's too bad otherwise- but they used the Presidential Disaster flood and settlement to bother me even further, and kept hundreds of others waiting over 3 years while they played around in the worst kind of corrupted way and the county still had the nerve to keep assessing property tax on people who weren't even on their land or in their homes and then take it out of money that was meant to keep others froim going through the same thing on the same land again and let them rebuild another life someplace else after losing almost everything.

Liars and PATHETIC!

Mr. Haney-land-
