Forgot to ask did the CDI get warm to the touch? That's a tell sign it is grounding out the spark internally instead of it making it through the spark plug. Electricity is like lighting its lazy just wants the easiest path to ground.

A better place to find the right boot and spark plug wire would be a motorcycle shop or where they sell ATVs. At least that's where I found mine. Also have you checked your head bolts to see if they are tight? How's the compression feel? Mine lost compression through the head gasket once. Another time I had an issue very similar to yours happen to me on the side of the 101 Freeway in northern California. At least I had the foresight to carry a good toolkit with me that day, lol! Anyway the problem was that the brass parts inside the carb worked their way loose from the vibration. I had to tighten up the jet and that brass tube that the throttle needle sits in. I also readjusted the float and made sure the float's needle valve was seating properly. It was sticking a little too.

Just thinking about it now I recall having to take that jet and brass tube off and blow some debris out of it once too when it was sputtering and didn't want to start. It had a tiny piece if rubber material in it from when I replaced the fuel hose. that was the other time I had to tear down my carb on the side of the road but at least I wasn't on the freeway then.

P.S. Yes California does allow bicyclists to ride on the 101 freeway between Fortuna and Arcata. It was the easiest way to get to the casinos. .shft.

I'm going to check at the local shop. Also its seems everyone is sold out of CDI's. Spooky is closed for stocking, pirate's out. I called sbp. Does any of the stores do overnight shipping?

Well Alright!

Ordered a cdi and magneto from Dax. Shipping was very quick, got it today. Swapped in the cdi, went to start it and heard the pop corn popping. Did a couple of runs around the block, and it seems overall pretty good. I did notice some minor smoking coming from the top of the engine. Could it be burning off old fuel and oil on the plug or within the cylinder? It still feels a little less powerful than before, just very slightly. I'm not sure if this is due to new cooler plug, bp7hs. I will wait a bit to see if the commute tomorrow smoothes things out before I worry too much. However, I'm starting to suspect that the black cat muffler is robbing me a bit on performance. I know you guys all are big fans of the expansion, but It seems either too big with the SBP kit, or loud with the grubee one they have at spooky tooth.

Now that I know it was a the cdi box, should I go back to a larger spark plug gap, like say .030 0r .035? I know if your spark is on the weaker side due either to the cdi, or running a light off the white wire (which i'm not but thinking about) then you should gap smaller. But what is the benefit or effect on the engine of gapping larger?

Also, I totally dig the the no kill switch simplicity. And I am sooo happy to get rid of the ugly wires coming from the kill switch. The clutch/brake shutoff does still seem a little brutal. I misread you guys before, by "choking it out" you meant by putting on the choke and that should kill the engine. I tried shutting off the fuel valves but that took forever.

Thanks again you guys for helping me with this. I'm back on.

Good to see you got it going!(^) I have averaged 30 thousands on mine . I have not experimented that much though. NGK B5HS is the plug i have always used.
