I rode them for years with no issues, both motorized and pedalling. You just need smooth roads and a need for speed.

Heck, the spandex racing crew do over 60mph downhill on 19mm tyres at over 120psi. Wait for the pop!

Aside from the the speed, the main drawback is tyre wear, with a 40t rear sprocket and running a 30mph average the rear was only lasting 400 to 500 miles with supermarket tyres at 90psi, It was better with name brand tyres but still uncomfortable. I have since changed to 26 x 1.5" at 50psi front and 60psi rear. It gives more confidence and comfort but its slower.
