Re: SpookyTooth Death Race 2009: YOUR input requested!

I gotta remember this is a race, so my stone stock pokey Whizzer isn't appropriate for that.
I can provide my pick up truck for support and escort. :D

Now, if mopeds were welcome, that's a different story.

Some race, some just ride the rally at a nice cruise speed. I am sure you and your Whizzer or moped will be welcomed.

I do not plan to do over 19.99mph

.rd. WoWee i just am going to have to save up and come to arizona. me and friends here were thinking of having one in penticton b.c. following the triatholon route 110 kms over 1 moutain pass--but here they are ilegal we have to sneak around like criminals- however it actually makes it more fun.
Robin, have I already asked you about that yellow Honda? Passport? or moped?
That looks like a sweet ride.
By the way we have some extra room for out of town visitors with fenced yard, security bars and a very nosey neighbor to watch over the place. Pass the word along, Tucson Death Race attendees have a place to stay, up to about four or five, depending how cozy they want to get. :D :D

From where I am sitting right now looking at snow and cloudy weather that is hovering around 40 it sounds like fun to me. Perhaps someone could plot the course with waypoints downloadable to a gps? If I can make it I will be there.

Here's another thought...

Start somewhere near I-10 and Sonoita Hwy and head south on 83 to Sonoita?

Around 30 miles

I believe there is a bar and or restaurant at 83&82 to hang out at after the rally. Have not been there in years don't remember all thats there.

Re: SpookyTooth Death Race 2009: YOUR input requested!

There is a BBQ and a gas station at the intersection. But there are a few sections of the road closer to I-10 that might be a bit difficult to bike, the bike lane disappears and there are some curves that are difficult to see around if you're in a car. I don't know If I'd feel safe. What if we start in Sonoita and go south either to Patagonia or Beyerville on 82 or to Parker Canyon lake on 83? But I don't know what's in Beyerville and there's not much to do at the lake except camping or fishing.

Start: Ajo & Sandario

North on Sandario to Avra Valley road

Then left (West) on Avra Valley

Then Right (North) back on Sandario

Then Right (East) on Barnett Rd.

End at Marana Park

about 25-30 miles

I guess if any route is too complicated, I could go before the rally and put up boxes or something and mark the course.

dont worry about that. i'm sure spooky will have that covered. at the last one, he went ahead and marked the course w/pink arrow-signs. good thing, too. i rode right past a marker and wouldve kept going if i hadnt looked closely.

Re: SpookyTooth Death Race 2009: YOUR input requested!

I guess there is no rally around Tucson, but we get to make laps around P1.
12pm to 5pm cruise around the track at your own pace. 5pm racing starts.

Spooky Tooth Cycles - Motorized Bicycles: Gas Powered and Electric Bikes - Death Race 2009

This is our party and you are invited!

Death Race is an annual outlaw desert event where riders regularly see their bikes nearly disintegrate as they approach speeds of 50 mph. To avoid the heat from coming down us, we have rented a race track for the day. Anyone and everyone is invited to participate.

Death Race 2009 will be held at P1 Circuit Race Track at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tucson, AZ on Saturday April 18th, 2009. The entry fee, which covers insurance and track rental, is $10. Riders can begin to register at 12 pm and spend the afternoon running the course at their leisure. Death Race will begin promptly at 5pm.

Death Race is open to motorized bicycles with mid-frame 2-cycle bike engines. If enough riders attend, we may hold an open class race for any engine type mounted to a bicycle with operable pedals, i.e. Tanaka, Golden Eagle, Mitsubishi, etc.

This is a premiere event and the largest of its kind held anywhere in the nation. The winner of Death Race not only wins prizes, but gets full bragging rights for the year and a prominent spot on the Spooky Tooth website. This is an excellent opportunity for manufacturers and vendors to promote their products by placing first in Death Race 2009.

Bring the grill! This is going to be a very fun day long event!

See you there...

Darn, the rules state it has to be a "bike" 2 stroke engine. I guess I'm really out in the cold until I mount my spare Puch 50cc on a bike. I'd like to enter the moped, and the Whizzer. Darn my individuality. Sometimes I feel so uninspired. :D

Re: SpookyTooth Death Race 2009: YOUR input requested!

You do not have to race Weedylot, I think you would be welcomed if you just cruised and made some laps.

I am not sure yet, trying to get the info. But i am sure P1 like most race tracks will not allow you to run the track without full riding gear. I will post the info as soon as I find out.

Look's like I will just be a spectator :(

Sweet! It's marked in my calendar and looks like Dean and I are headed for AZ for this one! I'd rather race the Spooky Tooth instead of the Polini Cup and finally meet some of you guys.
