I have been seeing a lot of 48cc engine kits on eBay, most are under $100. Has anyone bought one? If so how is the quality? If you have pulled the head does it have a squish band? The only 48cc I've found with a squish band is the gt2b grubee.

my supplier has quit importing kits - I bought all he had left, except the 48cc kits (several hundred 48s)

he may have sold them out to other dealers - no idea if his 48s were as good as the 80s

I just bought one. Its pretty good. It was a 99$ kit. Head has a squish and its a round head motor which gives it a nice old school look. Typical flat top 50cc piston. Ports needed quite a bit of cleaning up but its really fast with no engine mods besides cleanup and a good intake and exhaust.

Could you give me the EBAY link. I looked but only saw the square finned cylinder engines. If you do not have a link, could you give me the EBAY vendors name. I prefer the round cyl fin engines. THX

The photo was of a square head engine but a round head came. The seller was a http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?sid=iglobalbuy2011&_pgn=1&isRefine=true

This also might be one. It seems like sellers are just using whatever photos they have. http://m.ebay.com/itm/2-Stroke-49cc...D-BICYCLE-CYCLE-BIKE-/222078884434?nav=SEARCH

just curious, and certainly no offense of any kind intended...
but why would you want to get a 49cc for $99 when you can get a 66cc for $110?

The 48/49/50cc is not faster than the 66cc, I have both. I enjoy the ride on the 48cc a lot better, it rides smoother with no vibration. My modified 48cc will do 31-32 mph on flat ground, my 66cc with the same mods will do 37-38. I do run different sprockets, the 44 tooth is best on the 48 and I like the 41 on the 66.

Mostly because it has more of a retro look. I have over 3K on my first china girl. I never abuse it.

Back in 2010 when I started getting into motorized bikes I checked the Georgia state laws, the law is maximum 50cc to be considered a moped. Since I had never saw one up close I though there would be big differences so I ordered the 48 to be legal.

Too bad. There is actually almost NO difference to the untrained eye so it's very easy to pretend the 66cc is a 49cc.
Only way to know for sure is pull the head if you don't know the subtle external differences (Head, head stud size etc)

I've enjoyed the challenge of making the 48 perform like it should, I can cruise at 25-26 and enjoy the ride. The little engines are so much smoother, very well balanced. When I started on the first one it would do about 20-22 wide open, after doing a few little mods 31-32 is tops. The key no matter the engine size is to get the jetting right, as everyone that has done this for a while knows very few are correct as they come.

I have found that the little engines work better because they are the original design that the 66cc engine was based on. While they don't have a ton of power and tend to overheat on hills, the ride is super smooth without all the discomfort of a 66cc engine. Not to mention you can really get them singing when geared right and jetted properly.

only 48 cc as advertised"Flying Horse" it demands port transfer work and a Reed kit to compare to the 66/80 cc but the 48/50 "IF THE SAME" is a better overall engine @ high RPM much less vibration when detailed a bit and weighs less I have the PK 66/80 the GT-5 is likely the same vibration is a big issue at high RPM far as I'm concerned..

Well the 48 is the best of choice for the design due it's piston wrist pin and rings will weigh less than the larger 66/80 . correctly prepared it,s rpm will be higher it's top speed will be greater up until billet aluminum parts are employed but out of the box the 48 CD will outrun the larger engine if it's prepped correctly .
