i have lots of filters however if set to strict they make it so real people get blocked. we do the best we can and you will very seldom see a spammers post with a link on it. they may get thru registration however posting a link is another story. a few get thru with links but very few

Thanks, you and all the moderators do a fantastic job of keeping any spam out of our forum.

I was just wondering what we members could do to help you guys as the spam
attack these last few days has been rather overwhelming.

Do you want us to report spammers?

Those lists were just showing who was logged into the forum at that time. Many of the names aren't legitimate members.

I also enjoy 'hanging out' here......great site!

If you could only sit here with me and see what the other mods and I do every day you might understand what we're up against. Just a couple of days ago I had one spammer post 31 threads all selling sneakers and womens' handbags. It took me over a half hour to monitor him and delete every thread he posted until I could ban his IP.

Not a day goes by that we aren't cleaning up the forum so the members aren't deluged with ads for everything from sports apparel to Viagra. Actually I'd estimate that there are hundreds of spammers that attack this forum weekly and you guys seldom see them because they don't get passed me or the other staff members. They seem to come in cycles. One day maybe only two or three; The next there might be fifty. If you had access to the control panel we use you'd see the number of spammers we have banned and cleaned from the forum so you guys aren't subjected to them. They number in the thousands.

If you see one that got passed us, report it, and we'lll clean up the mess as quick as we can. As Paul said, they cannot post links unless they are approved by one of us and we don't approve anything.

Sorry if an occasional nasty spammer sneaks through but they are only trying to reach a minimum post count so they can link to whatever garbage they're selling. We try hard to keep them at bay but we're only a staff of six fighting a world of bastids trying to get you to buy something.

Not kidding, last fall there was a ton of spam related to hardwood flooring. (again, not kidding)

Woke every morning after a night of banning hardwood flooring spam. Only to ban some more.
Not Nigerian princes selling name brand hand bags with male enhancement pills sawn inside but hardwood flooring.

What cracked me up about it was who wakes up and thinks; "Hmmm, they like taking perfectly good bicycles and strapping motors on them. Lets try and sell them some hardwood flooring"

Remember, it is not just wood flooring. It's hardwood flooring

Buying flooring is not beneath you!

Wood is good

You buy now, right now

Happy joy in good wood (kinda my favorite one there)

Just a thing, if any one registers, their name appears. Even if staff bans their posts, their name shows as having visited even if no one on the forum besides mods ever read their posts.

Most days, I delete 3 to 5 spams and they often post multiple times.

That being said, have you considered your hardwood flooring needs? I have a link

Oh, so you're the guy who banned them. And I was looking everywhere for 'hardwood flooring'. Little did I know I could have found it right here.

By the way, how's your ED today? I just banned one who was selling a five year supply of those little blue pills. Cheap too, just have your credit card ready.

Blue pills? Hardwood flooring? Geez, you guys are in the bush leagues. I got a personal invitation from MissyKissy504 who wanted to me to talk to her about my Photobucket pictures of the tri car. She even included a photo from my Photobucket account and a rather flattering photo of herself.

I got so excited that I pushed the wrong button and she disappeared never to be found again. Oh, the possibilities that could have been. Nights under the moonlight, long walks on the beach. Sigh...

Steve.

I had no idea anybody would take the time to register to attempt to spam, let alone hundreds or thousands of fake members. That is mind boggling to me. Thanks so much to the dedicated moderators and staff members who take valuable time to stop crap like this and keep the forum for bikes and about bikes.

Even back in years past when our email boxes could have hundreds of spam ads each day I never understood it. There must be a lot of dumber and more gullible people out there than I can imagine. I don't get how anyone would consider buying prescriptions, porn, vitamins, etc. ad nauseum from any spam ad that's ever been sent.

A few old quotes come to mind:

There's a sucker born every minute.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Better yet:

You can't get something for nothing.

There is no free lunch. ( I could make political satire on this one, but let's stay away from poverty programs and politics.)

My Mom's favorite when I wanted something:

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Thanks again,
I gotta help a Nigerian Prince who wants to send me his money.

To help shed light on spammers - they don't really care if anyone buys the products they're advertising as they've already sold their product.

That product being their services, posting whatever link as many times as you've paid for. It doesn't matter to them if it's effective, or even coherent - you paid $19.95 to get your link on the net 10,000 times? NP, fire up the scripts & crew of untrained monkeys and shotgun post everywhere.

Untrained monkeys with shotguns......sounds about right!

It's the trained monkeys that you've got to be careful with.........
