So today when i mounted my steed i heard a lot of chirping and popping when trying to start.
It only happens for about the first few minutes until it warms up. I talked to a guy at napa and he said magneto. I dont think its my clutch though.

When I tore down my motor and re-assembled it I got an occasional chirping sound out of the left of the engine, I chalked it up to a bearing failing but eventually it went away. A few weeks later I was messing with my magneto and I noticed that one of the washers on a mounting screw was worn to the shape of a 3/4 moon where it was rubbing on the magnet.

The clutch studs are also known for scraping on the inside of the gear case cover.
A blown head gasket can also make a chirp sound.
A loose spark plug can chirp too.
Just look it over really well and do not be afraid to remove the side covers. There is nothing inside there that will fly out at you.

There have been many a thread in the past about stray keys being found inside covers. rotfl
