I did it !!!
I would like to thank some good guys for helping me to build my first wheel ;)
Troy (chainmaker) - sent me a great PDF on wheel building (111 pages)
Jeff Wolf (culver city classic) - sent me links to really helpful vids
Norm Neal (venice motorbikes) - gave me some cool advice over the phone
THANK YOU GUYS !!! (^)
all I have left is to trim the ends of the spokes ;)

Now you are free from paying to get your wheels done!
Be careful though, once it gets out that you can build wheels, they start appearing as if by magic!

congrats!

it gets easier with every wheel you build.

i think i was 11 or 12 the first time i built some wheels, just to change the color of spokes on my bmx bike. probably took me 4 hours for the first one. they didn't have 111 page pdf's back then. :)

now it's easy. i just built a wheel a few days ago in about 45 minutes, even with 3 broken ribs and a messed up shoulder.

it's a great skill to have. think of all the time and money it saves. seriously. now you can swap out a hub in a few hours instead of taking it to a bike shop, dropping it off, waiting a few days, picking it up and paying for it.

it's something every builder should learn... :)

I've never tried it. I can true a wheel okay but lacing one up from scratch sounds scary. I'd be afraid I'd end up with one hole or one spoke too many. Then what do you do? :)

Great work, Bill. Another forum success story.
