Here is an angle on the matter I never thought of before and happened across,,,, there are still bicycling velodrome competitions using motor pacing (where the bicyclist drafts behind a rider on a motorized cycle, to reduce wind resistance).

Most of the newer examples seem to be just using modern motorcycles with REALLY long handlebars and an odd stand-up seating arrangement, but some of the vintage models look like motorized bicycles (Puch engines?).... but the frames don't look normal. They appear to have been built for the engine.

And why is that GIANT sprocket on there??? That looks like about a 65-tooth,,,, good luck with pedaling that. (click on the second photo down, the bike under the umbrella)
