I made a gasket that goes between the clutch cover and the engine case from 'O' ring material. 1/8th inch 'O' ring material cut to size and glued to the clutch cover dramatically reduced the noise. The cover bolts/screws are long enough to grab and I was careful not to overtighten them and squash the 'O' ring. I used Loctite to assure they wouldn't back out too.
It works for me, much better than an ugly rubber thing glued to the outside of the cover...and I still have a mouse pad. I tried the hose-in-the-fins thing too and couldn't tell any difference in engine noise whatsoever.

Way to go Tom....Sounds like you found something that works good for you.....I`ll have to check that out too, maybe my motor will be dramatically quiter compared to others....I can`t use the mouse pad deal because of my cooling/vent holes in my cover,I still have to isolate my motor mounts to ease some of the vibrations.....We`ll see...
