  • Sorry I did not get back to you when you emailed me here on the forum. I'm slow to get to all when I first open a new account. Looks like you contacted me just days after I opened my account.

About you question, best advice I can give. If you believe you'll be reaching speeds of up to 50 mph make sure you have heavy duty rims. I weigh 170, but with 60 lbs of wet clothes on the back of a mountain bike, I melted a rear rim at 50mph on a huffy 18 speed. In as far as engines, this is my first build since I was 20 yrs old and I started when I was 13. I'm now 56. There are many others here with much more current experience than I. Good Luck my friend! matter of fact, I just noted this to the Most insane Trike ever....... http://motorbicycling.com/showthread.php?t=35066 This about melting my rear rim in the early 90's.
Thank you so much for your indirect input and sharing your knowledge. I hate to be a lurker but I have been reading a lot about bicycle motors electric/gas and you have by far been the most informative about them on this thread.

Curious on your current top 3 engines or so if you have the time. Planning to purchase a gas powered engine as well as a bike to accommodate it this summer. Would love electric but Im not sure I could afford the batteries. Im approx 240lbs and dropping. I was hoping to have your opinion in the matter and see what you were interested in motor wise, so I could research the engine a bit more myself and make a final decision.

Any input is great but thanks again for sharing all your knowledge on the bike laws thread.
