That motor Dennis has would be a good motor for you to try . you would need a starter box to start it I would think .

Ill be at Grange for sure , I am getting my KTM clone ready for that race .
Dang, no hillbilly rope pull start?

A healthy running flat head can make lots of power.

Thanks Jeff, those were kind words. I would like to win a race someday, but I can't take motorized bike racing serious enough to get all concerned about it. It's just too silly, grown men riding little bicycles with little engines going not very fast. Like Turkman says, you go into the geek forest at these events.

Don't get me wrong, I love it, I like silly stuff, just can't get serious about winning.

I don't know how much hp Dennis's engine will put out, but if its too fast for the mid-range, I don't mind moving up to the unlimited class, and get spanked by scotto's speed machine. I gotta say though, even if my bike was faster than nashmoto or mag rider, I would still probably lose, those guys lay down some tight lines around that track.

Yes, and before anyone gets bent out of shape, I fully admit to being one of the geeks in the forest. I don't know how it happened, but I am completely obsessed with my motorized bicycle.

I am continually working on it, to my wife's dismay. When I am not working on it, my mind is consumed with pondering how to fix this bit, or strengthen that bit, or how to fit a new generator motor in there. I really love it, but it sometimes controls my thoughts.

So I say "bikes with little motor geeks" unite! Don't be too proud, revel in the silliness and always check to see if that stupid smile is still on your face. I know it is on mine at all late hours, as I stare at my creation in the dimly lit gardening shed that is my workshop.

The top dog jr dragster motor uses a aftermarket block swinging a three inch or bigger piston . Those motors can make close to fifty horsepower . But like Dennis said the early motors used a raptor block and would have a hard time making half that before self destructing.

Briggs dragster motor will be more than the 8 HP Midrange class limit so you would be in the combined 12 HP and Unlimited class race.

If you are OK with that move or maybe you need a second bike and race in both classes? :D

I think you have a good shot at beating nashmoto and magrifer.
You and your bike get faster at every race.

i'm sure the guy's at the last race are happy that you decided to take their prizes and hold them for your next race. and how did you come up with HP figures to put old style flatheads with modern OHV or OHC motors? is msfan bumped up for using a 2 speed? he has a 5 hp briggs same as the motor gil has [stock size valves and piston and crank] a little thought before making one man foolish rulings [sharia in islam] costing racers time and money and some the desire to build a race motor or shelve the almost done motors. when motorcycles in the 60's raced the flatheads were allowed 750cc's to the ohv 500cc motors. why? ask someone. i hope you found your used flywheel we all know how expensive they can be on your pocketbook. GET IT!

Forgot to mention that Fred sent Dave at Arrow Motorized Cycles 2 of his billet heads for prizes.
I decided to save them for the Oct 19th Grange race.
Thanks Fred!
Huh?

And thanks Dave?

Melt them and turn em into trophies........:D

I picked up the motor today in all separate pieces, so I don't think anyone will have to worry about the hp rating of this engine for the Oct. race, I don't know if I will get it working by then.

Hey Neil, how about whenever I do get the engine together, you let me run it in mid-range in the first heat, and see how fast it actually is? I have a feeling it would be the slowest bike in the 12hp class, but if it ends up being the fastest bike in mid-range, I would gladly bump up a class. I think hp numbers are misleading, especially with a relatively heavy bike using a comet transmission.

I don't think I'll ever have two bikes, and if I did, it would be one racer and one street bike.

Anyway, like I said, winning is neat, but not a necessity. Just buzzing around the track is fun. I'm not looking to bend the rules, like multiple gears and stuff.

Dave had absolutely nothing to do with not giving out the CR Machine head prizes on Sept 7th.

I take full responsiblility for that decision.

Hey Scott, didn't you win one of the 4 very cool cast trophies that Dave of Arrow Motorized Cycles went to a lot of time and effort to make?

I do not get your comment . . . .....
