was driving the bike down a road going about 50 for about an hour. it started to slow down and the throttle didnt give it more gas. it stopped and then shut off. and when i went to start it again it didnt ignight. it didnt cease. i think a wire became loose and its not creating a spark. fuel is good, semi new engine. what could be causing the bike to not ignite

assuming your 50 is kilometers

if it is a loose wire, just reconnect them all like you did when you built it, if that doesn't work, then read here on the forum about testing your magneto, CDI & spark plug

yeah, sorry. i was goofing on you. if you can make a bike that did 50mph, you should be able to troubleshoot the problem...

check all your wires, make sure nothings loose, broken or grounding out.

also, disconnect your kill switch and try to start it. they have a habit of failing...

i have a green wire coming from the throttle and a green and black going into the cdi there seems to be a yello wire as well. which is the killswitch

The wires that are coming off the kill switch, disconnect them both. You might just have a faulty kill switch, that's killing your engine prematurely (I know it never happened to you before, right?)
So, start with that. If that works, then you're good. If not, take the spark plug wire, and cut 1/2 inch off from both sides. rescrew them in. That might solve it. If not, open the magneto area (where the three wires are coming out of the engine), and make sure the wires are connected to something. It might just be loose ground, or loose something.
If that doesn't fix it, it can be a faulty CDI box. You'd have to get another one, or test for continuity or resistance.

I hope that works, brother.

Best of luck!!

im going to take it out tomorow. its strange. just as i was driving it the engine slowed down and it just turned off after it stopped. giving it throttle did nothing. it seems like a spark plug issue but i bought i new one. i need to get the proper keys to open up the mag area. the wires seem to be locked in there pretty tight and pretty good. but ill have to check. there was a green wire and a yellow wire coming from the kill swtich so i disonnectd both of them

then i connected the blue wire to the blue cdi wire and the black to the black cdi wire. i left the white wire along with the other yellow and green wires taped up and isolated.

i tried to start it and nothing. when i took out my boot from the spark plug, the spring was still inside but the little copper thing with the little metal clip were on the end of the plug still in the engine. does this mean anything or should i just screw it back in? and when i do screw it back in when i remove the boot again it also comes back out like its not catching on the the threads

ive disconnected the killswitch. should the bike be able to pop when you just lift it and spin the wheels? it just sounds like gears spinning over when i release the clutch

have you checked for spark?
the very same thing happened to me the other day. CDI died.
was running down a hill (idling) when i came to the bottom at a reasonable speed to hit the gas it just died. couldnt get it started again. once i got home i checked for spark, and had to replace the CDI unit.
if no spark, either CDI, sparkplug, sparkplug boot or magneto is gone.

sparkplug and the boot/wire u can get at almost any automotive supply shop.
magneto and CDI, theres links on the both side of the page to many parts vendors.

sounds like your plug cap is broken since you didn't mention the small spring that sits under the brass part - local motorcycle shop should have an NGK cap that will fit (take your old one in to show them)

but it doesnt turn. there is a point where it doenst lock up the wheel but has drag. that was (when it was running) the point of the bike turning over. now it just makes a weird noise and then locks up

when the clutch is squeezed the bike moves but when i release the clutch there is no way toi get that thing to turn over. with or without spark plug. it should at least turn over when the clutch out if you force it.

so now im thinking it might be a seizure. im not sure how to check these things but taking the exaughst off might give me a good look at the pistons? ive got a new cdi coming in the mail along with a backup magneto if they fail. ill get back to this thread on what will happen next. only thing i can do is wait.

Here is why i think it was a seizure. The choke was half up cause i left it up not realizing. it got real hot and then stopped and then wouldnt start. no spark. it just seemed to sort of lock up. it feels the same as before when it was running just nothing happening
