Happy Fish?

I'm wondering if any of you that live on rivers in the Midwest have come across the invasion of Asian Carp. I stumbled upon this from an article on the web yesterday and it blew me away. Evidently, it's the boat motors that make these things jump out of the water. I watched on youtube video that had a bunch of people bow-fishing them, all the while getting slammed by, up to 10 pounders.

If it was me, I'd be armed with a scatter gun to get rid of those things.

I'm hoping that the electric wiers(think thats how its spelled)work and keep them out of the great lakes,we've had enough trouble with zebra musculs(again,spelling?) and lampreys....I heard that they pay alot for them in Asia!...Lets catch 'em and ship them back to them!..We'll get RICH!!!....Tigmaster....

The article that I read on them mentioned that the Army had rigged up an underwater electric fence to keep them in, but they still got through it. Now, evidently, the Fish and Wildlife people are planning on using poison to kill them. Talk about real brains, eh. They would get farther putting a bounty on them and letting ordinary people take them out.

That was pretty good. If that was me, I'd rather be in a boat that was enclosed with netting or something to keep those fish from slamming me. I bet a lot of those people got some pretty nasty bruises from that!

I've seen on other carp vids where they had a cage made from hurricane fencing to protect the guys in the boat...

I always get distracted anyway, and end up watching a few of the Heather LaCroix vids...

Heh, I'm subscribed to both Jeff's and Heather's channels

There's been payback of a sort. A South American fish related to pirana' that in it's native land is a fruit and nut eater. In New Guinea they imported it and it's taking over the waterways there, known locally as "The Nut Cutter" Seems it will attack a man's privates It was a River Monster's episode.

Ask my father-in law, an avid fisherman, if he'd heard of these fish. He said he saw an episode on one of his fishing shows where people have had their arms broken, facial injuries and been bitten by them after they jumped into boats. He said they are moving north and the Great Lakes and those in Minnesota are worried about them. Scary stuff. They have no natural enemies and are eating everything in sight so other fish are starving.

I saw a documentry on PBS for in Florida there was a time that the sturgon were also jumping all around and peoples boats had holes in them from the fish and some sank if small boat.

There fish with a hard knoggen. Prehistoric I guess too. They are good smoked and are high price selling. They have that jagged back with like alegator look on their back. Black and silver, like Oakland Raiders. Ofcourse they were LA once, now it seems approved for Santa Clara down da bay and they will play there when stadium is built.

We have a horrible carp infection here . The trouble is cultural more than anything else . It is considered good luck , in some cultures , to release a carp back to the wild . Unfortunately they started selling live carp at the local Superstore as food . These were never wild fish and are genetically altered , farm grown , super-fish . They are great for sport fishing and in some places it is easy to fish with a hammer as you bump in to them while wading along the shore line . By the way , no matter how you cook them , they taste like MUD . .... D.J.

You talk of taste like mud. Check it out a children’s PBS show on wildlife animals I saw on TV today showed an elephant that was throwing dirt on its body. OK, I've heard it’s like a sun screen and it usually is done with dust on the ground. This was different after a while they mention the elephants eat dirt. Well yep the trunk grabbed a few time and ate the dirt. They say it is for the salt mineral in the dirt. Don't know but maybe I should get on board with that and a side of mud carp to wash it down!
