It seems like the guys on the West Coast are having all the fun with their races. Is anyone else interested in having some races in the North East ?
I cant commit to trying to pull this off alone . Is there anyone else in the North East that would like to jump on board and try to help make it happen ?
Im guessing the biggest obstacle is finding a track that will allow it.

Takers ?

Sounds good! I hope it gets off the ground. I think slowbalt and taco will have to give most of us a handicap!

I had read a post last year about a very large parking lot in maine that might be used for an event. I would love to see some sort of east coast event.

Well, if yer talkin' about this 'un, I'd not call it "very large" but it is almost exactly 1/4 mile long on the skinny leg;

State Road, Bath ME

The nets aren't usually there ofc lol, sadly the gravel pile is - but fortunately the pavement is in good shape & it's simple 'nuff to sweep the track if needed.

It's a viable candidate, gokarts & cars often use it for time trials, setting up a serpentine course w/multicolored cones. I've talked a bit w/the owner and he's quite friendly & open minded, not interested in profit I think the only expense would be insurance... probably *shrug* There's also a chance of coordinating with the gokart folks to share the track & help difer the insurance costs as well - but ofc we'd need to talk with them as well ta see if they're interested.

The only "major" problems I see w/this track other than coordinating w/the owner & insurance would be discussing the possibility of camping on site & finding the nearest hotels, Bath/Brunswick is kinda remote for most of our members ;)

Here's a coupla quick vids of the lot gettin' used;

MB lap, empty lot
Kart lap
Car lap

Bath, ME would be a good excuse for the wife, almost like a "vacation". If I remember right isn't the Iron Works up that way, and a few other tourist traps?

i'm in. i would sighn a liability waiver no problem. i would guess the owner would have to draft up some papers to cover his ass.

So lets set a date and make it happen, my vote is for Saturday Jul 23rd. And yes I just picked a Saturday off the calendar, so I am not firm on that, and other suggestions are welcome. But..... I am thinking we want to let Barely make that call seeing how he will have to do most of the leg work.

I have no problem signing a right to die waiver and chipping in a few bucks for a day of fun, and if Barely has that tadpole of his there it would be worth the trip just to see that.

HI Guys,

I often thought the same thing....The West Coast guys always have all the fun....Glad to see somebody thinking of something for us East Coast Guys!

I'll have to Mapquest but this sounds a lot more doable for me that AZ!

Keep us posted!

Bath Iron Works? lol, I unno - an industrial shipyard doesn't seem the most romantic of getaways ta me, but to each their own I figure :p ...but yea there's a couple few places ta hit up - like the Maine Maritime Museum & whatnot.

Yea, I'm a lil reluctant to try & set a date this early in the game. While I'm pretty confident getting the track won't be an issue, I suspect coordinating w/the gokart guys to defer insurance expenses would be the best move all around, particularly for a first event. If we can manage that it won't matter how many folks actually show up, anything we chip in will jus' help them as opposed to carrying the full expense ourselves... but I gotta track 'em down & ask, as well as see what their event dates are.

Thank you for the consideration man, I appreciate it - yet I gotta say I've zero interest in profiting from an event, I'd much rather keep the expenses to an absolute minimum to encourage participation. To my knowledge (and I could be wrong) the owner of the lot doesn't actually charge to use it & as I recall the gokarters were askin' $20 to participate, again for the insurance - which I'm pretty sure is the only thing the lot owner insists on.... 'cept safety gear ofc.

I'm figuring that if this works out I'd be shooting for a two day event with an overnight, hopefully with on site camping to maximize our access to the track & cater to latecomers... but again, that's the "ideal" situation & I've no idea this early in the game, I've folks I gotta track down & talk to lol

Ive heard that the track in NH, will allow it. I dont know much info, but a friend has told be he has raced his bike up there.
Ya should defo look into that if ya wanna - there's no reason in the world to not encourage as many NE events as possible, why should the westers have alla fun? ;)

Its funny I just went up there(Bath ME) to pick up my last bike a complete running diamondback I got for $120 on craiglist.It took me 3.5 hours from my house so this would not be a problem and have a camper and bike trailer for my big bike that would haul 3-4 bikes.The date will work for me,I am on vacation for 2 weeks and that is the last weekend.

That track looks nice, I appreciate you taking the initiative on this, I know it's work coordinating an event (tracking down people working out the details with the owner etc) so big thank you for that. I do think the sooner we have a date set the better so people can make plans, get time off work etc.

I hope this happens, I'd def make the trip from CT. Keep us posted.

Jus' to keep ya'll informed on the... lack of progress, I have as of yet been unable to get relevant contact information. While I've chatted w/the folks involved before - we never exchanged any phone numbers & my friends of friends issue is somewhat problematic ATM

No worries, it's just a matter of time & the slacker variable lol :p

Meanwhile, there's this epic event for the nor'easters ;) http://motorbicycling.com/f35/ct-ride-cook-out-28785.html
