Sunday the other MB here in town was hit by a car. At church a couple of people asked if it was me. Nope. I met the guy while I was building mine, he had a cruiser with a happy time engine and always pulled a trailer. I do not know any details and there has been nothing in the newspaper. Not uncommon for our rag. He definately was hit and rumor has it that a police car hit him. No word on his condition. He must not be dead as no obit.

I still haven't found out the riders condition, called the newspaper and they didn't know that it happened. An offduty deputy who is a friend of mine was pulling a trailer with a pickup and pulled out to pass the bike. When his truck was past the bike the rider turned into the space between the truck and trailer. Guess he didn't see the trailer and was turning into the place where he lived.
Someone went into my daughter's place of business and told her that an older white man riding a motor bicycle had been hit and she freaked out. She didn't know that there were two of us in this town. She called me and was o.k. when she found out that it was someone else. Not that she wasn't sorry that it happened to the other guy just relieved that it wasn't her dad.
I will post more when I know more that is verified true.Sure hate that it happened.

This was in todays paper.
NATCHEZ — A Lucedale man received serious injuries Sunday afternoon when the bike he was riding was struck by a truck hauling a trailer on Mississippi 555.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the incident at 3:07 p.m.

Mason Storm, 43, was struck by a 2008 Chevy pick-up pulling a utility trailer. Both Storm and the truck’s driver, Gregory W. Lee, 38, of Natchez, were driving north on 555.

Lee reportedly attempted to pass the bike. The bike turned in between the truck and the trailer, the highway patrol report says.

Mason was transported first to Natchez Regional Medical Center with severe injuries and then to University Medical Center in Jackson.

The highway patrol report said there was no evidence that Mason was wearing a helmet.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and I really hope the guy is ok...

This bugs me a little;
The highway patrol report said there was no evidence that Mason was wearing a helmet.
Yet there was no mention of whether the truck driver was wearing a seatbelt or not... nor did they say if the rider received serious head wounds. These lil "quirks" aren't all that uncommon, I've seen similar slants when motorcycles and ultralights have mishaps too. It's not that big of a deal I'll admit but it so often seems there's an agenda when it comes to news reporting.

The accident wasn't caused by the lack of a helmet, nor was it associated with the injuries in the report - the way it's mentioned often infers that somehow the biker is at fault for the mishap simply for failing to have a piece of safety equipment...

Not to say I'm against helmets of course, but Maine is one of the few places that still doesn't have mandatory helmet laws and it always seems they focus on the lack of a helmet even if the rider sustained no injuries at all.

Measure twice cut once...ALWAYS look twice b4 turning or making any unexpected moves. Nobody is exempt from this sort of thing happening. Nobody knows if the guy was havin a stroke ect. Pretty unusual for a grown man to make a turn like this something had to be wrong we don't know about.

i've pulled trailers with an Ford F350 for work through LA traffic, and the truck was so big it blocked people's view of the trailer when they're trying to merge (or snake me) into the lane.

seen plenty of people nearly miss hitting it, because they were focused on the truck, and trying to cut over right behind me. i've almost done it myself a few times.

luckily, all those people were in cars, but i could see how it could happen.

on a bike, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, though. if a truck was that close to me, i don't think i'd try to swoop in right behind it, especially in the dark.

sounds like there's more to this story than the "witness" (driver) is telling. maybe the biker just got shaken up a bit, swerved and got clipped, or maybe the trailer was wider than the truck...

whatever the cause, it sucks that it happened. hope he comes out ok.

Wonder if the wheel/fender caught him? I've had a few close calls loading the trailers at the auction I used to work at by standing next to the trailer as it pulled away and was clipped by the fender.
Can't see that as the truck passed he had time to get between the truck and trailer even at 15 miles an hour unless he hit the side.
