Tonight I completed my best Hitty Thing percussion instrument so far. 1 x perforated and ridged tray, 1 x slightly smaller baking tray, separated by 4 blocks of wood. Doesn't sound like much, but there's a wide tonal range and good volume from it.
Sort of like this for the big one, gives a rub board sound, also sort of snare drum when used with brushes. The other, plain side, has a remarkably African tone to it.
Tonight was it's first outing. The ridged side wasn't as much use as expected, but the flat face of it gave a very sharp snare drum sound. It's excellent for reggae. The edges need more support, there were dents incurred. Also it needs a better strap arrangement to allow standing or sitting.
