I can't wait till I own a truck so I can get my bikes down there to race. Hopefully I'll be joining the races in the next few years.

I have a 2002 honda civic two door sedan. Not a hatchback. The rear seats fold down, and I can fit my 24" racer inside without taking it apart. 26" bikes I have to take off the front wheel.

What I'm saying is, ya don't need a truck. ;)

I have 2 bikes. One of them would fit if I didn't take anything else. The other one is a stretch cruiser which I would need a truck for, and that's the one I really want to race.

    Good Evening everyone,

This is what happens when you try to run a mildly modified Predator 212 with a stock rod to stay in the Midrange Class. In the last SoCal motorized bicycle race I ran this engine with a billet-finless ARC flywheel advanced 8 degrees, 18lb. valve springs, removed governor, header with an open muffler, but a stock carb.

It ran ok, but with a comet clutch, did not have enough power to keep up with the moto-ped, or Nashmoto's engine/riding skills. After the race I put on a 19mm mikuni carb, but the engine seemed to become fuel starved at prolonged WOT, even with a fuel pump installed.

I then put on a 22mm mikuni carb with my SMC red vortex 3 disc clutch, it revved up pretty good and was responding well in all RPMs including WOT, then the rod let go.

I have since built a new engine with all the above mods, but now a billet rod. I have only run it at 4,000 RPM for a few miles to break it in. Will be conducting more runs soon with full throttle to assess RPM upper limit. I am hoping for 7,000, but it did not seem that high with the stock rod before it failed.

Second and Third picture: bike in street testing mode, not yet race ready. Have to swap handlebars for smaller racing ones, remove headlight and tail light, and switch to the hookworm tires.

I hope to see all the usual suspects at the track, DTM crew, Brian, Norm, Andy, Baird, Dale, Kevin, Scotto, Rebel bike crew, Apollo Racing, Team Arrow, etc. I also look forward to seeing Team Wolf re-appear this race and hopefully there will be a lot of new racers.

Come out if you can, its more fun than you might imagine and everyone is quite friendly. Bring earplugs though, because those gopeds and small tire karts are crazy 2-stroke-loud-bleeding-ear fury!!

As Scotto likes to say, "SEE YOU IN THE PITS"

    Gilbert

    Really?
Nobody drags a knee on a bicycle with bike tires, even on the 20" wheeled bikes.

What are you racing? :) or are you?

Gilbert, thank you for being our tester of racing a 212 cc in the ~ 8 HP Midrange Class.

The aim is to make a 212cc a fair and affordable engine option that has
minimal mods for that popular race class.

here is Gilbert on his 212cc? trying to drag knee at an impressive lean angle.

Thanks for your kind words and yes, there will be lots of new racers.

I am MAKING GoPed, GoQuad and Bike Trophies for the April 1st race.

    36 Custom Trophies.

There will Always be trophies at the races.

Every GoPed, GoQuad and Bike racing on April 1st has to have a Front facing easily readable number plate.

So...... that's around $50 to race?!! ($5 membership / $10 gate pass / $35 race entrance fee. Not to mention the extra $20 for Friday practice?!!

No offense but that is quite steep, you're looking at $70..... add the cost of fuel to get there, fuel for your race bike.

Anyway, are there cute chicks there? If so, please take plenty of pics and post them here..... it will definitely help me in my decision shall I one day feel like coming to the track to spank all of ya'll.

You really have to consider the high cost of renting the track for a whole weekend!!

    No kidding!

Renting the track for 2 days.
    Professional EMT for Sat
Pay insurance on every spectator and racer that signs the waiver.
Pay $15 hour to the Start/ Finish Flagger.
Pay Pete for 2 days to sign everyone up on Fri and Sat morning and score the heats and races.
Buy pizza for my workers and volunteers
Make 36 trophies that are easily worth $50 each if bought.
Buy all kinds of miscellaneous stuff, safety vests, number plates, markers, note books, stickers, pens, etc, etc, etc, etc.
    Print out 80 race schedules.
    Buy $150 of race decals.
Countless hours of my Time promoting these races for
going on 6 years and 20 races.

Potato: Yeah, the race fees are outrageously steeep or maybe you are just really cheeep? ;)
You obviously know nuthing about racing on a real track.

There ain't any Racing that is as Affordable as Socal Motor Bicycle Racing.

Grange charges a very reasonable $30 a day to practice from 8am to 5pm and that is usually sharing the track with karts and bikes each getting about 15 minutes track time before swapping. No EMT and no races allowed, no trophies, etc.

So 2 days practice at $30 is $60 which is a deal.
Jim hasn't raised the rate since 2002 which he bemoans.
It's costs a lot to run and maintain a racetrack.
We are lucky to have such a friendly track owner and awesome track.

Similar local tracks charge $45 a day practice fee so $90 for 2 days.

So Potato, I guess you don't get out too much in the real world and don't go to movies, Disneyland, etc? .duh.

Honestly, I think it's pretty awesome that you took the initiative and made racing available for people with motorized bicycles. I'm still pretty new to motorized bikes....... I'm a karting guy, and have a shifter kart and that's more of my thing. Not sure how you run your events, is it run like a 'season' where you tally up the points and give out the championship at the end? Or is it more like each race is a different event all the time in itself and trophies, etc are given on that day? Anyway, keep it up..... good to see stuff like this going on and giving people a chance to come out and have fun.

    ................. And yeah, I'm a cheapskate. :p

Yes, we are cheeeep racing! $20 for all of Friday practice until dark is a gift from me.
Friday gets a good crowd but many can't take Fruday off so come late Fri or Sat race day morning.

    I don't charge for 2nd and 3rd race classes!

$5 yearly membership is for all 3 SMBR races and a pittance.

Looking good Norm, but of the 139 members and 3504 guests browsing
this site today none of the 3504 guests can see your race bike pics

The Weather and Race gods are smiling on us:
Low 70's on Friday practice day and on Sat Race day.
