I went to Ty Croes (say it Tea Kroyce) in Anglesey on Saturday to see an old friend race a Honda Cub with some of his friends. 100 bikes on the start line, 8 hour race. They finised 30th out of 100 on a largely standard bike. Visible mod was the adoption of an externally mounted damper on a bridge and link arrangement to tame the uninhibited frenzy of the front suspension because you're required to retain and use it. Several teams adopted the same solution, things engineer themselves.

I bent one of those pressed metal front ends when I was all of 15. Spinning the back tire in dirt, caught some sidewalk, hit a car! Luckily it was the bumper so the car survived the assault unscathed.

My Dad and I replaced the fork together. Many lessons ....

In the eary days of British moped racing, somebody put solid struts on one. The track was generally smooth enough, but eventually the soft and soggy steel of the pressings gave way.
