My Blog

Last Friday I was doing my routine ride to Cherry Creek to do my usual buisness and on the way back my rear tire on Cronus blew. It's a super thick slime tube 40 psi of air inside a Kelvar tire and it exploded. It was so loud I actually blew a hole in my sidewall.
Now this isn't the first time this happened to me. First time I stuffed my rim full of grass and leaves and I limped my way home. The other times I had a spare tube and a pump and I was good to go.
This time I have actual tire damage and that super thick slime tube I'm still in awe that it exploded as loud as it did.
And I didn't want to damage my Wheelman wheel still straght and true btw.
So was it the slime?
Well yea. Heat builds up then it has no where to go then you get an explosion.
Or could it be my weight?
I had nothing to eat or drink that day and I was a good 7 miles away from home. Cherry Creek is a good 28 miles away one way so I was what I thought close to my house because when you ride man even though you're cruising along you really don't believe you're that far away.
Well it took four hours to get me home. I could have asked my wife to come get me but I thought that I got myself in this mess I'll handle it that's the way I am.
Half way thru my dehydration made my legs cramp up. Did I ask a neighbor if I can drink from a hose? No because I'm too stubborn to ask. It got so bad that I started up Cronus just so I didn't have to actually push her.
Well later that day I stepped on the scale.
290 pounds.
This is what's causing my blowouts. This is what's causing my NoMoreFlats tubes to not work for me because my rims cut right thru my sidewalls and into my tube.
Over the weekend I was honestly ready to just give it up man. All of it. I mean I'm just too fat to be riding these bicycles.
Then my wife tells me if I want she can start me up at Bally's.
It's 24 dollars a month no contract month to month no other fees except pay first and last month when you quit your membership ends the following month.
Sorry for spamming here but I am so determined to lose some weight here.
The Buggy Bike that 16T may just be the perfect gear I really don't know. When I ride it's slow but when my kid rides it rather picks up at least it's faster than when I ride it.
So from Friday until today is the longest stretch I have gone without riding since I built my beloved MOOP1.
Duane from Dax last time we met up told me a bit about the Atkins diet. I'm avoiding breads but taking it a step further. I have quit ciggaretts cold turkey two years ago without remorse because I had a quintuple bypass then cigs just didn't fly with me no more.
So I take that attitude when it comes to food. Food is for nourishment. It's not for munching on while watching TV not realizing you just ate a whole bag of potatoe chips until your hand finds nothing.
I just eat food really slow now. Drinking lots of water. And I've been working out at Bally's every day. They have a warm pool a hot tub and a steam and dry sauna too along with all that excersise equipment so it's pretty VIP.
Just like I quit smoking because I had a Bypass I'm quiting overeating and excersizing daily so I can ride again.
So Friday I weighed in at 290.
Today I weighed myself at the doctor's scale in the shower room over there.
277.
My goal is to lose 90 pounds by early next spring so I can be down to 200.
They say the first few pounds are the easiest then you kinda plateau out so I'm ready for that.
So today when I got back from a 4 hour workout I went in back of my house and looked at my bikes.
Cronus hasn't been touched since that flat tire. It's still there.
It's such a percect bike with over 6 thousand miles in her. I'll fix that flat. Soon.
The Buggy bike sans bed to reduce a little weight. I'll still get a 14T on there eventually.
I want to tackle that huge hill down the street.
Then there's MOOP2 my 2 stroke rebuilt with parts Dax had laying around gave me a good deal. I haven't ridden her in a while probably it's been over a month.
Tires are inflated. Why not.
Rolled it down my driveway. My clutch on my right hand and throttle on my left so it feels like an old Indian and I can reach for my choke more naturally. Half choke pulled the clutch and it starts right up. With the engine idiling with very little throttle I just run it like that. Boost Bottle is doing it's thing. It's just so smooth like this.
Then as I pass the neighbor trimming the hedges and waving a Hello at me I wave back then gun it.
Then Moop2 takes off.
Right there as I was cruising down the street at about 3/4 throttle doing about 20mph.
Right there.
I cried.

Dude, I lost over 40 pounds in about 5 months. 90 pounds by next year is totally do-able.
You will have to change everything, forever to do it and keep it off.
You can do it.
It will be very hard to do.
Good luck.

large! i know its possible to loose weight! ive lost almost 50 pounds and my GF like 60!

we had to sacrifice a bit changing our eatin ways, and doing exercise, i would recomend a professional. But mostly we undestood that humans should drink Water (110 oz a day, for you a bit more) that we should eat 5 or 6 times a day (you will always be full) eat fruit like 6 times a day, lower meats to around 4oz 3 times a day, no more than 1 cup of rice (carbohydrates). at least 1 cup of veggetables 3 times a day, and a milk product with each of your 5 meals (light yogurt)

eliminating sugar completly! is a most! completly! Drinking tons of water is super important, excersice every day EVERY DAY, walking does miracles! your will notice better mental health within 1 week of excersise, maybe you wont notice weight loss for the first month, but youll feel a lot more energy and youll be happy.

it very difficult to get used to, because you have to break with old rituals, but its worth every sacrifice! better health, youll proud when you buy pants that you could only dream of wearing!

Anything if I get enough of it that has the high fructose corn syrup gave me migraines . My diet needs to be the good carbs fast and slow release blood sugar combinations I been told by trainers is the key. Then there is no blood sugar crashes. Potatoes are a slow release , fruits , juices [without corn syrup] fruit juices are a nice fast release. Oh the list could go on . I never consider corn syrup in anything as food anymore.

I just want to point out that I didn't actually cry. It just looked fitting to end that blog.
Yea I gave up on pop about a year ago. I use spenda for sweets.
There's just so much chocolate around the house. That and pasta dinners are my nemesis.
But I'm doing quite good this week. It's nice to work in a sweat knowing soon you're gonna jump in a warm pool, soak in a hot tub then relax in a steam room.
I feel like I've been on vacation this week.
And today my body is not as sore than yesterday so I may bring it up a notch tomorrow.
I tell you though. Thanks to the recession a lot of fitness clubs has dropped their contracts and sign up fees and done a straght month to month no commitment.
When I signed up my wife gifted me 48 dollars for first and last month. The months in between they will dock me 24 dollars from my checking account. And this price never goes up.
I mean this is less than the cost of 5 packs of cigarettes anymore.
And I plan on going 5 days a week.
It's an awesome deal.
People are starting to say hi to me over there.
I just gotta get used to everyone staring at my chest scar.
Food to me is like cigarettes.
When I got my quintuple I gave up smokes cold turkey.
No remorse.
No jitters.
My body just tells me no more.
That was 2 years ago.
Food is like that to me too.
Too much is bad for my body.
The other week my wife and I went to the Texas Roadhouse.
I usually order the porterhouse but this time we did that two for tuesday deal.
And my plate was absolutely tiny.
But that's a human portion.
That's my new mindset.

Hey large.. go for it. You are doing well.. Do not expect too much too fast. It takes years to put it on.. It will take time to take it off. Just stick to it. My Sister spend thousands on a dietitian. She lost a lot of weight. She was told 5 carbs or less per meal. That is how to lose weight fast. 5 carbs or less per meal. BTY. Carb in Greek means sugar. Anyway.. That is what she did and she lost no weight .. But that was for 3 weeks.... And she was skeptical. And.. On the 3rd week... She started losing weight fast.. And it has not stopped.. She is getting thin now.. And.. I am sure her dietitian has raised the carb limit now to a maintenance level. Not sure what that level is.. I will have to ask. But.. In a nut shell.. It is low carbs. I am not sure if that is the atkins thing or not. But.. The key is low carbs... Which means low sugar. Sugar is the thing that puts weight on. Makes sense to me. What has low carbs? Well.. When you buy your food, you can look at the carbs part . And you will see what has low carbs or low in sugar. Meat and veggies typically. and other things. I asked my Doctor about it. She said.. Yes.. Lean meats and veggies... So.. Now.. When I want something sweet, I drink Diet pop, or eat and orange. Orange is high in carbs or sugar.. But.. It is a natural sugar and not refined sugar. But.. That is how I get my sugar fix these days.. I too have lost weight. I do not keep to the 5 carbs or less. But.. I eat lean meats and veggies. And..When I need my sugar fix, it is diet pop or oranges. Dark Chocolate Covered Almonds are a great fix. Only eat 5 or 10. Amazing how much lower in Carbs Dark Chocolate is compared to milk chocolate. Anyway.. Just stick to it Large.. It will take time.. But.. The weight does come off. Every now and then treat yourself .. But for the most part.. Stick to low carbs.. And watch the weight just fall off.. It is amazing for sure what sugar does to our bodies.. My sister spent 1000's to learn this.. Here it is for free...God Bless and Enjoy the ride...

Thanks for that Duane! Yea. I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm also taking like really tiny bites of food and chewing it like 100 times. It takes a long time but when I'm done I'm actually satisfied.
The hardest time is when I'm watching TV waiting for my host home guy to come home and right now sitting here typing this up right now I want to munch on something. But I have this cold glass of water right here and it's doing well.
In fact, water has been the only thing I've been drinking this entire week.
Sure I may cheat once in a while. But it won't be alot.
I figure if I can quit smokes I can control my appetite.
Soon I may have to change my name to Medium Filipino!

I think a weight loss blog with day to day thoughts while you go through the process is an excellent idea and motivator. You will think that you have an obligation to stay with it if we all follow along with your efforts. You won't want to let us down.

I went from 276 to 210 last summer. Then over the winter I jumped up to 220. I dropped that already and am headed for 200 this year. There are a ton of fad diets but my daddy always said, "Push yourself away from the table sooner." What he didn't say was that it should be before the deserts.

When I was in a very hot climate in 1967 I had a little blood pressure problem. Just a little and a doctor there told me to drop a couple of pounds. He said he didn't have time to mess with my BP, since he was treating me for Malaria.

So of course I asked him how. He said if I could eat the food in the chowhall I had an iron stomach so do this: avoid anything that is white or has white inside it.

So I could have any green veggie, any meat I wanted, all the salad I could eat, since sugar is white all sugar was out as well. Yea even when it was hidden in coke or iced tea.

So when I decided to lose the weight I went back on the diet. What really upset me was eating out. I went into a restaurant and they had steak and baked potato. When I asked for salad instead of the potato the waitress was nasty as she said, "I will have to charge you for the salad, but you can have french fries instead of the baked potato if you want, no charge." LOL it was a conspiracy I tell you.

Doing that I lost about five pounds every ten days or so for a while. Then it eased off till I got tired of dieting and went to a maintenance diet.

This year to lose the ten pounds I have begun eating breakfast later in the morning 10am If possible. I get to working on the bike and forget all about it, or I go for a walk on the bike path/ walking trail. I ride my ebike to the trail, then I walk a mile and a half and I'm going to go farther when I can get to use the trail more regularly.

Anyway after I eat the breakfast at 10 or so, I skip lunch. Then I eat a normal dinner. Last night it was a frozen spaghetti dinner right out of the box. Between meals I eat as little as humanly possible. I eat a lot of peanut butter and I mean a lot of it. You can buy some really small inexpensive crackers to hold it. That's a lot neater than eating off your fingers. Especially if you are a bike builder. Lately I have been buying a huge bag of animal crackers at the Wally mart. More peanut butter less crackers is the rule. At least you get some protein with your snack that way.

I drink a ton of diet cola and now this new wally-mart diet fruit drink mixes. different things work for different folks just stay with it. Good luck

Get away from all processed food. Stuff that was made more complicated than it really is like too many ingredients that sorta makes it not food any more. I have noticed that acidophilus is not just for the dairy intolerant. A healthy flora in the intestines can be everything. It was said that Jhon Wayne the guy in the old western movies had forty pounds of junk in his intestines when he died! I have eaten my fill of store bough jerky when on a road trip and played **** waiting for my constitution to be over with. I have made lots of homemade jerky no fancy stuff some homegrown ground chili powder. No probs with it. The preservatives in our food kills the natural occurring flora in our intestines. So does Alcoholic abuse.

When I was a kid I got a fish tank for one of my birthdays. In a short amount of time I found critters to put in it from the neighboring arrogation ditches. Soon the tank was cloudy and ugly dirty. My father would have a fit so I would be cleaning it every weak end. Until I learned that when the gravel trays were used right vi the bubble tubes stuff could be sucked into the gravel. When it was done right and enough bacteria was present in the gravel viola tank stayed clear.

I am not perfect by any sort. Our dear Jack Lolain had the right Idea no processed stuff. I don't think the artificial sweeteners fall under a natural category!

Hmmm what would you recommend for a sweetener for the coffee. I have to have my java and it has to be sweetened. I've been using sweet N low, but if it's not good. Hmmm

There have been numerous case studies on the artificial stuff . That said it was bad stuff. An easy thing to figure out is always the money trail. The FDA does what they want corruption. I can't say that I know everything I don't and will not profess to. Get a book by this guy Natural Cures Home | NaturalCures.com Amazon.com: Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You To Know About: Kevin Trudeau: Books Best d%$ book I ever read you will not regret it. Natural cures they don't want you to know is a very good read!!

I've seen his infomercial and just got through reading literally 100s of reviews. Seems as tho he's nothing but a scam artist. Not gonna spend money to find out.

I use spenda. It's supposed to be sugar but without the bad stuff.
We use it on everything.

First of all just so you know someone is reading your journal I bookmarked it. I also use splenda and it's pretty good. They even make a splenda for cooking and baking. We only buy diet drinks at my house. I am a believer in some processed foods, not all. For instance I would rather have pasteurized milk than unpasteurized milk sitting in my fridg. I would rather have bread that doesn't mold in two days. Don't even get me started on botulism from untreated canned foods. Some, not all, of food additives are there for a reason. Believe me it would be cheaper for the manufacturers to do nothing at all. That is till the lawsuits start.

One more thing about dieting. It's a lot like stopping smoking, You have to be motivated. Then if you slip, forgive yourself and get right back on the diet. It is important to keep an upbeat attitude don't beat yourself up. Just go right back to it.

For instance when I hit 200 lbs, I am going to go to krispy Kreme (the ultimate processed food) and buy a half dozen raspberry filled donuts and a half dozen custard filled chocolate covered donuts and I'm going to hide them so that I can eat them all in two days. Then when the diarrhea stops I'm going right back on the diet.

You could always try the "Bikeguy Joe's Caveman Diet". (no, not THAT ONE, but it is so simple a caveman could do it...)
When you buy food, or get ready to prepare or eat food, think about if a cave man could have made it or eaten it.....no? then it's not real good for you.

What a cool way of thinking.
